Remodelling
Old gold, made into something you will actually wear.
Broken chains, single earrings, rings that no longer fit, pieces that live in a drawer. Roman can melt down your gold and re-use your stones to make a new piece, designed with you.
What remodelling involves
Remodelling means reworking jewellery you already own into a new design. Your gold is melted and re-worked into the new piece, and your diamonds and gemstones are re-set. Because you are supplying the metal and stones, the cost is mostly in the workmanship rather than the materials, which makes remodelling a sensible way to get a substantial piece.
It is also the best way to keep a sentimental piece in daily use. A grandmother's ring that is never worn can become a pendant that is worn every day.
Popular remodels
- Old gold melted into a solid bangle
- Inherited diamonds set into a new ring or pendant
- An old engagement ring redesigned in a modern setting
- Yellow gold pieces re-made in white or rose gold
- Several small pieces combined into one substantial piece
- A worn or lost piece re-created from a photo or memory
Bring everything. Odd earrings, broken chains, old wedding bands. Roman will check what each piece is made of and tell you what can be re-used before you decide on a design.
How it works
Bring in the pieces
Bring everything you are thinking of using. Roman checks what it is made of and what can be re-used.
Design it together
Talk through what you would like to wear. Roman will sketch options and explain what will work with the metal and stones you have.
Made by hand in store
The piece is made on the premises. You will have a price and a timeframe before any work starts.
Common questions
Can any gold be used?
Most gold jewellery can be re-used. 9ct, 14ct and 18ct are all workable, although different carats are not usually mixed in one piece. Gold plated and gold filled items cannot be melted down. Roman will test your pieces and tell you what you have.
Can I use my own stones?
Yes. Diamonds and most gemstones can be re-set. A few softer stones do not cope well with re-setting, so Roman checks each one first.
What if I do not have enough gold for the piece I want?
Roman can add gold to make up the difference, and will tell you the cost before starting.
How long does remodelling take?
It depends on the design. Roman will give you a realistic timeframe when the design is agreed, so mention it early if you are working to a date.
