Gold Blend Jewellers is Roman's shop. He is the qualified jeweller behind the counter and the one at the bench, and he has been since the shop opened at Woodgrove in 1997.
The jeweller
Trained by hand, in the traditional way.
Roman is a qualified jeweller with more than 40 years' experience. He learned the trade at the bench, in the days when every ring shank was hand-forged and every claw was cut and set by eye, and that is still how he works.
Over four decades he has done everything from fine chain repairs to engagement rings made from scratch, and built a reputation for the difficult jobs: the "unfixable" ring, the bracelet no one else could resize, the heirloom that had been repaired badly somewhere else.
He is also known for being straight with people. If a piece is not worth repairing, or a design will not work, he will tell you.
The shop
At Woodgrove since 1997.
Gold Blend Jewellers opened at Woodgrove Shopping Centre in 1997 and has been there ever since. It is a family business run by Roman and his wife Julie, with a workshop on the premises, which is why repairs are done in store rather than sent away. The shop has also been recognised with a small business award.
Customers come from Melton, Caroline Springs, Bacchus Marsh, Sunbury, Taylors Lakes and across Melbourne's west, many of them for more than a decade.
